Job — Beyond the Why
What happens to faith when life no longer makes sense?
The book of Job takes us into some of the hardest questions we ever face. Why do people suffer? Where is God when prayers seem unanswered? Can we still trust Him when we cannot understand what He is doing?
Job begins as a man whose world seems secure — and then, suddenly, almost everything is taken from him. What follows is not a simple explanation of suffering, but an honest journey through grief, questions, arguments, silence and, eventually, an encounter with God Himself.
Over eight Sundays we will travel through the whole book of Job, moving from certainty through suffering and confusion, beyond inadequate answers, towards encounter, humility and trust.
Job does not answer every question we might want answered. Instead, it leads us towards something deeper:
Who is God? And can I trust Him when I do not understand?
Sunday 18 October —When Everything Falls Apart
Job 1–2
Can I trust God when everything falls apart?
Job’s secure world collapses, and the opening chapters confront us with the question of whether faith can survive when the things we relied upon are taken away.
Sunday 25 October — Why Was I Born?
Job 3
Can I tell God how much this hurts?
Job gives voice to his anguish, showing us that genuine faith does not require us to hide our pain, silence our questions or pretend that suffering does not hurt.

Job 4–27
What if the answers I am given are wrong?
Job’s friends offer increasingly confident explanations for his suffering, revealing how easily tidy answers can misrepresent God and wound those who are already hurting.
Sunday 15 November — Where Can Wisdom Be Found?
Job 28–31 Where can I find wisdom when I cannot make sense of my life?
As the arguments reach their limits, Job longs for wisdom, justice and an opportunity to bring his case before God.

Could God be doing more than I can see?
Elihu enters the debate and challenges some of Job’s assumptions, beginning to turn our attention away from human explanations and towards the God who is about to speak.
