Lorna Ferguson
Sakata, Japan

Lorna Ferguson has served in Japan since 1998, firstly in church planting and then in a leadership role within OMF. She has four grown up children who are spread-out between the US, the UK and Japan. Sadly, her husband David died of cancer in 2017 just a few short years after taking on the Field Director role within OMF Japan. Lorna continued to work in her leadership role in the Greater Tokyo Area, but in her next term will return to Sakata, a coastal town in Japan, to support a Japanese Minister.

Japan has a population of over 123 million people of which around 0.5% are Protestant Christian. The population is declining and aging and it is expected that by 2055 over half of the population will be eligible to collect a pension (Operation World, 2025).

Lorna is excited to work with some of these older people in her new ministry in Sakata as she seeks to support Pastor Kizu and the church there to reach out to the local community, in particular to try to reach the next generation.

Please pray for:

  • Lorna as she establishes herself in this new ministry and reaches out to share the good news of Jesus with the people of Sakata.
  • The Lord to raise up more missionaries with a heart to reach Japanese people and serve the Japanese church.
